Led Bulb
What LED bulb do I need to replace a 400 Watt Metal Halide bulb with?
I need to replace a 400 Watt Metal Halide bulb with the correct LED Bulb for more efficient energy cost. The metal halide is MOG/E39, 20,000 Life Span, Colour Temp. 4000K
If your major objective is heat, then LED technology is your worst choice. The technology you’re using has a luminous efficacy of almost 3%, which is very good for incandescent. It’s likely the best you can do for that much light in that form factor. See the reference for one of very few manufacturers who have attempted to make a CFL in that form factor for that much light. I doubt there’s an LED bulb made today that gets anywhere close to that.
The most obvious question, of course, is do you really need that much light? And if so, are you better off using a different form factor and using a more efficient technology like low pressure sodium? Or can you use polished reflectors to get more of the light where you really need it?
