Pipe Plugs

98 Ford Contour, temp sensor, where?
working on my mother in law’s car. temp gage not working. I replaced the sensor in the top of the thermostat housing, still no good; I have been hunting 2 days looking for another temp sending unit beyond that one; there certainly is NOT a sensor of any kind where it is shown to be in the Haynes manual I bought. If I cannot find (I bought both temp sensors shown in the catalog at Advance) I don’t even see an aux pipe plug to tap in a remote Sunpro or Stewart Warner type gauge. but if I cannot find that is my close 2nd choice. this is a 2.0L 4 cyl, Zetec engine.
anyone know where it is on these cars?
ok so that sensor does all 3 functions (fan, computer and gauge?) which side do I ground? 2 wires there I do not want to short anything out.
ok found it; buried and blended in with the black-ness of the hoses and the block color, in a dark area; angled down towards the front of the car under the T stat neck.
pull the wire off the sending unit u changed, and run it to ground, if the gauge goes high, past hot, then the gauge is good, if it doesnt, replace your gauge.
